Day 1: Beginnings

Today, I had to get up earlier than what I would have liked after arriving just before 10pm the day before because I started the my language school at 8am. When I first arrived I met a guy by the name Robert, who works at the school and he straight away knew that I was the kiwi. After a quick test of my Spanish conversational skills I was directed to my class which only has me and one other student, Natalia, who is from Switzerland. Everyone at the school, both teachers and students are very kind and are always patient when I am trying to say something in Spanish, sometimes they are waiting for a long time.
After my class, I went for a quick tour of Heredia with one of the other staff members, Erica, and also another student, Brian, who is from California. I found it was quite scary crossing the roads because not only do they drive on the other side of the road in Costa Rica, but also there doesn't really seem to be many road rules and the footpaths are very narrow. While on the tour I was briefly shown the town market, it takes up a whole block and has all the fresh produce you could need.
Once the tour was over, I got picked up from the school and went home to have a late lunch. Following lunch, I unpacked all my stuff before having a nap. When I woke up, I freaked out a little bit, because it was so dark. I thought it must have been at least 10pm, however I looked at the time and it was only 5:30, so it gets darks very early here.
Then Jorge and I went to the local mall to try to exchange some of my US dollars for Colones, but the banks were closed by the time we got there because there was so much traffic that it took 1 hour to get there.
Overall, it was a good first day, I have already learnt and experienced so much. Life is very different here, but it is very cool nonetheless.
