Once school finished I came home and we had a meal sort of like bolognaise that Jose had made, it was very good. At lunchtime I met Jose's sister Melania for the first time too, it was nice to finally meet her, because she doesn't live at home anymore.
At about 3pm, Jose and I got a ride to the bank to exchange some of my US dollars into Colones, you get about 500 Colones for every dollar. It is very strange to be carrying around notes that say 10000 on them.
After this we caught the bus into San Jose to meet up with some of Jose's friends so that they could show me some of the cool places and building in the capital. We first went to the main square of San Jose and inside the Cathedral that is directly opposite. There were a lot of pigeons.
Jose's friend Brayan then met up with us and we continued onwards to the National Theatre and the Cultural Square of San Jose. Underneath the square is a museum all about gold, that we visited too, and as you would expect it had a lot of security measures.
We spent about an hour there before doing some more walking, seeing a popular statue of a fat lady, the central bank of Costa Rica and San Jose's answer to China Town.
Following this we caught the bus to San Pedro, a suburb of San Jose, where we had Taco Bell for dinner. It was my first time having Taco Bell, and I have to say I was quite impressed with how good it was, and also it only cost about $7 USD for the meal.
Then we went rollerblading. Now, I used to be quite good and rollerblading, I think, but it had been awhile, so... yes... I did fall over.
Once we had spent enough time there, we caught the bus back to San Jose, and before returning to Heredia, we visited the Park of Democracy (the names are less strange in Spanish) which has a castle that is now a museum. The whole park was lit up nicely and there was a big piece of artwork too that had colour changing lights.
We got home just after 10, and I still had homework to do. It was quite a late night.
Christmas is arriving in style this year |
